Timor Boobook

Timor Boobook, Ninox fusca, is an owl of the Lesser Sundas, breeding on Timor in Australasia. It also occurs on Roma, Leti and Semau islands in the eastern part of the island group. It is marked by grey-brown plumage without any red tone, setting it apart from other forms. The belly shows grey streaking, and white spots are present on the secondaries, inner wing-coverts and nape. First described by Vieillot in 1817, it was later treated as part of the Australian boobook before being recognised as a distinct species in 2019.
