Aplonis tabuensis
The Tongan Starling (Aplonis tabuensis) is a medium-sized songbird native to the islands of Tonga and Fiji. It is known for its glossy black plumage and bright yellow eye-ring. This species is highly social and often forms large flocks, creating a cacophony of melodious calls. Tongan Starlings are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and berries, but they also consume insects and nectar. They are adaptable birds, found in a range of habitats including forests, gardens, and urban areas. Despite some localized threats, the Tongan Starling is currently not considered to be at risk and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
