Torrent Tyrannulet

Serpophaga cinerea (Tschudi, 1844)

Torrent Tyrannulet, Serpophaga cinerea, is a passerine of fast mountain streams in Middle America and South America, from Costa Rica to Bolivia. It is a bird of rocky, rushing water, usually in forested country, though it also uses more open streamside settings and can occur in marshes and flooded forest. The species is a year-round resident across its range. It is a small tyrant flycatcher with two subspecies, and the nominate form has a mostly black head with a partly concealed white crown patch, grey upperparts, and a black tail.
