Townsend's Shearwater (Puffinus auricularis) is a medium-sized seabird found in the North Pacific Ocean. It has a dark brownish-grey upper body and a white underbelly. This species is known for its graceful gliding flight and its distinctive mournful call. Townsend's Shearwaters breed on islands and coastal cliffs, and they are highly adapted for life at sea, spending most of their lives on the open ocean. They feed on small fish and squid, often foraging in groups. Threats to this species include predation by introduced species on breeding islands and accidental bycatch in fishing gear.
