Tractrac Chat

Emarginata tractrac

The Tractrac Chat, scientifically known as Emarginata tractrac, is a small passerine bird found in arid and semi-arid regions of southern Africa. It is characterized by its sandy brown plumage, with a distinctive white wing patch and a long, slender tail. This species is known for its agile and energetic foraging behavior, often darting across the ground in search of insects and small invertebrates. The Tractrac Chat is typically found in open, sandy habitats with sparse vegetation, such as desert dunes and dry riverbeds. Despite its localized distribution, the population of Tractrac Chats is currently considered stable, and it is not of immediate conservation concern.
