Tree Swallow

Tachycineta bicolor

The Tree Swallow is a small migratory bird known for its iridescent blue-green upperparts and white underparts. During the breeding season, these agile fliers can be found in open areas near water, where they nest in tree cavities or nest boxes. They are highly social birds and often form large flocks outside the breeding season. Tree Swallows feed on insects, catching them in flight with their acrobatic aerial maneuvers. Their migratory habits take them to wintering grounds in the southern United States and Central America. These birds are important for controlling insect populations and are a delight to observe with their graceful flight and striking plumage.
