Tristan Thrush

Turdus eremita (Gould, 1855)

Tristan Thrush, Turdus eremita, is a thrush of the Tristan da Cunha group in the Atlantic Ocean. It is confined to Tristan, Inaccessible, Nightingale, Middle and Stoltenhoff Islands, where it uses the full spread of natural island habitats. The bird is notable for its reduced flight adaptations, including short rounded wings and a smaller keel. It also has a brush-tipped tongue suited to taking egg contents. Breeding takes place from September to February, with a cup nest placed on or near the ground and a clutch of two to four eggs.
