Tristram's Bunting

Emberiza tristrami

Tristram's Bunting (Emberiza tristrami) is a small passerine bird found in the Middle East. It is named after Reverend Henry Baker Tristram, a 19th-century ornithologist. The male has a distinctive black head and throat with a white moustachial stripe, while the female is more subdued in coloration. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard during the breeding season. Tristram's Buntings are primarily insectivorous, foraging on the ground in open areas with sparse vegetation. They are known to breed in rocky areas and canyons, often at higher elevations. Despite their relatively restricted range, they are not currently considered to be at risk of extinction.
