Tropical Gnatcatcher

Polioptila plumbea

The Tropical Gnatcatcher (Polioptila plumbea) is a small passerine bird found in Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive blue-gray plumage and long tail. These active and agile birds forage for insects in the dense foliage of tropical forests and woodlands. They are often found in mixed-species flocks, where they use their high-pitched calls to communicate with other members of the group. The Tropical Gnatcatcher builds a cup-shaped nest from plant fibers and spider silk, placing it in the fork of a tree branch. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to their populations.
