Tropical Mockingbird, Mimus gilvus, is a passerine of Middle America and northern and eastern South America, breeding from southern Mexico to El Salvador and across parts of the Caribbean and mainland South America. It is a resident bird of open country and is often seen near people. Its plumage is grey above with pale underparts, a dark eye stripe, white wing bars and a long dark tail tipped in white. The bill is slim and slightly downcurved, and the legs are long and dark. Juveniles are browner with dusky streaking on the chest and flanks.
