Tropical Royal Flycatcher Onychorhynchus coronatus is a passerine of Middle and South America, breeding from southern Mexico through north-west Venezuela, western Ecuador and north-west Peru, and across Amazonia. It belongs to the family Onychorhynchidae. Its most striking feature is an erectile fan-shaped crest. In the nominate form the male is red with blue tips, while the female is yellow or orange. The sexes are otherwise similar. It lives in humid lowlands, in evergreen forest and second growth, usually in the lower storey and midstory, often beside streams and in seasonally flooded várzea forest.
