Tropical Shearwater

Puffinus bailloni

The Tropical Shearwater (Puffinus bailloni) is a medium-sized seabird known for its graceful flight and distinctive long, slender wings. These birds are predominantly found in tropical and subtropical regions, often nesting in burrows on remote islands. They are highly adapted for life at sea, with streamlined bodies and strong wings that enable them to cover vast distances over the open ocean. Their diet primarily consists of small fish and squid, which they catch by plunge-diving from the air. The Tropical Shearwater is known for its haunting, mournful call, especially during the breeding season when they gather in large colonies on their nesting islands.
