Tsavo Sunbird

Cinnyris tsavoensis Van Someren, 1922

Nectariniidae — Sunbirds

Tsavo Sunbird, Cinnyris tsavoensis, is a sunbird of eastern Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania, where it occurs in the Tsavo area. It was described by Van Someren in 1922. Its breeding range is in Africa, in eastern Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania. It is tied to dry scrubland with Commiphora and Acacia trees and bushes, and it is not found on the coast. The bill is short and curves downwards, making it less long than that of the similar Marico sunbird. Some authorities treat it as part of the purple-banded sunbird.
