Tuamotu Monarch

Monarcha richardsii

The Tuamotu Monarch (Monarcha richardsii) is a small songbird native to the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. It is known for its striking black and white plumage, with a distinctive black mask across its eyes. This species is primarily insectivorous, foraging in the dense vegetation of lowland forests and coconut plantations. The Tuamotu Monarch is a territorial bird, often seen singing from prominent perches to defend its territory. Unfortunately, the population of the Tuamotu Monarch is declining due to habitat loss and predation by invasive species.
