Tufted Antshrike, Mackenziaena severa, is a bird of the Atlantic Forest in south Brazil, eastern Paraguay and north-east Argentina. It belongs to the antbird family and is a passerine. It is a monotypic species. Both sexes show a crest, usually held flat, red eyes and a fairly long black bill with a hooked tip. The male is mainly sooty grey, while the female is mostly blackish brown with rufous on the forehead and crest and barred upperparts and underparts.
