Tufted Puffin

Fratercula cirrhata

The Tufted Puffin, scientifically known as Fratercula cirrhata, is a striking seabird found in the North Pacific Ocean. These birds are known for their distinctive appearance, with black plumage, striking white facial markings, and bright orange bills. During the breeding season, they develop characteristic tufts of feathers on either side of their head. Tufted Puffins are skilled divers and forage for fish and invertebrates in the ocean. They nest in burrows on coastal cliffs and islands, often in large colonies. These birds are highly social and form strong pair bonds. Tufted Puffins are known for their distinctive calls and are a popular sight for birdwatchers along the coastlines of their range.
