Turquoise Tanager

Tangara mexicana (Linnaeus, 1766)

Turquoise Tanager, Tangara mexicana, is a passerine of the tanager family in South America, breeding in Trinidad, the Guianas and Amazonia. It is associated with humid forest, with its main range in the Amazon, and it also occurs in woodland and cultivated areas. Despite the scientific name, it is not found in Mexico. It was once treated as the same species as the white-bellied tanager from eastern Brazil. The female incubates three brown-blotched grey-green eggs in a bulky cup nest placed in a tree or shrub.
