Two-banded Plover

Anarhynchus falklandicus (Latham, 1790)

Two-banded Plover, Anarhynchus falklandicus, breeds on the Falkland Islands and in inland and coastal parts of southern South America, including Chile, Argentina and locally Brazil. Outside the breeding season it also reaches coastal Chile and coastal south-eastern Brazil. It is a plover of the Charadriidae family. The species is known for its two dark breastbands, though the upper one is often broken and this is especially common in the Falklands population. Adults in breeding plumage show clear differences between the sexes, while non-breeding birds and juveniles have duller tones.
