Two-banded Sandgrouse

Pterocles bicinctus

The Two-banded Sandgrouse is a medium-sized bird found in arid and semi-arid regions of North Africa and the Middle East. It is well-adapted to desert environments and is known for its remarkable ability to travel long distances in search of water. These birds have specialized feathers that enable them to carry water to their young, making them important indicators of water sources in their habitats. Two-banded Sandgrouse are highly social birds, often forming large flocks when foraging or drinking. They are primarily ground-dwelling and feed on seeds and grains. Their cryptic plumage provides effective camouflage in their sandy habitats.
