Upland Antshrike, Thamnophilus aroyae, is a bird of the Andean foothills in south-east Peru and north-west Bolivia. It belongs to the antbird family and was described by Hellmayr in 1904. This monotypic species is tied to humid montane forest edges, especially thick shrub growth and tangles of vines, and it also uses fresh regrowth in landslide scars and beside roads. In Peru it is recorded from about 800 to 1,000 m, while in Bolivia it reaches higher ground, up to 1,700 m and in some accounts 1,900 m.
