Usambara Double-collared Sunbird

Cinnyris usambaricus

The Usambara Double-collared Sunbird is a small passerine bird native to the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania. It is characterized by its iridescent plumage, with the male displaying metallic green and blue colors on its head and throat, and a distinctive double collar of bright red feathers. The female has more subdued colors, with olive-green upperparts and yellowish underparts. These sunbirds primarily feed on nectar, using their long, curved bills to extract it from flowers, but they also consume insects. They are often found in montane forests and forest edges, where they flit among the foliage in search of food.
