Vanuatu Petrel, Pterodroma occulta, is a petrel of the Pacific Ocean that breeds on Vanua Lava in the Banks Islands of northern Vanuatu. It was formally named in 2001 by Imber and Tennyson. The bird is also known as Falla’s petrel, a name that honours Robert Falla, a New Zealand ornithologist. It is a little-known seabird and was first identified from specimens collected in 1927 off Merelava, with another bird recorded ashore in New South Wales in 1983. The first confirmed breeding site was found in 2009.
