Variable Hawk, Geranoaetus polyosoma, breeds in western and southern South America. It is a bird of prey in the Accipitridae family, and its range includes the Southern Cone. Its taxonomy is disputed, with some authorities separating it into different forms, while others treat them together. The Juan Fernández Islands taxon is considered more distinct than the others and has been suggested as a separate species. In most modern accounts, the three races are kept as subspecies.
