Variable Seedeater, Sporophila corvina, is a passerine of Middle America and South America, breeding from e Mexico to Peru. It belongs to the tanager family and was described by (Sclater, PL, 1860). It is a common bird of lowlands and foothills, reaching 1,500 m in semi-open places including forest margins, roadsides, scrub, gardens, pasture, weedy fields and grassland. Its plumage varies greatly, especially in males, which may be mostly black or show white on the wing, throat, rump, belly, flanks or collar, depending on the population.
