Varied Bunting

Passerina versicolor

The Varied Bunting is a small, colorful songbird found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Males are striking with a mix of blue, red, and black plumage, while females are more subdued with olive-green and gray tones. They inhabit open woodlands, scrublands, and canyons, often near water sources. Varied Buntings are known for their melodious and varied songs, and they primarily feed on seeds and insects. While their population is currently stable, they face threats from habitat loss and climate change.
