The Varied Lory, scientifically known as Geoffroyus heteroclitus, is a colorful parrot species native to the islands of Papua New Guinea. These medium-sized parrots are known for their vibrant plumage, which includes a mix of red, green, and blue feathers. They have a playful and social nature, often forming flocks and displaying acrobatic flight patterns. Varied Lories primarily feed on nectar, pollen, and fruits, utilizing their specialized brush-tipped tongues to extract nectar from flowers. Their natural habitat includes lowland rainforests, coconut plantations, and forest edges. Despite facing habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade, the conservation status of the Varied Lory is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
