Varied Sittella

Strepera versicolor

The Varied Sittella, scientifically known as Strepera versicolor, is a small, agile passerine bird native to Australia. This species is characterized by its striking plumage, which consists of a combination of black, white, and chestnut colors. Varied Sittellas are highly social birds and are often found in small family groups or flocks, foraging for insects and seeds in a variety of woodland habitats. They are known for their distinctive high-pitched calls and acrobatic foraging behavior, often seen spiraling up and down tree trunks in search of food. Despite facing some threats from habitat loss and fragmentation, the Varied Sittella is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
