The Varied Sittella, scientifically known as Daphoenositta chrysoptera, is a small, agile bird found in the woodlands and forests of Australia. It is characterized by its distinctively pied plumage, with a combination of black, white, and chestnut colors. These birds are known for their acrobatic foraging behavior, often seen moving headfirst down tree trunks in search of insects and seeds. Varied Sittellas are highly social and often travel in small, noisy flocks, emitting a variety of calls and chattering noises. They build cup-shaped nests in tree hollows, where they raise their young. Despite facing habitat loss in some areas, the Varied Sittella is currently not considered to be at risk and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
