Ixoreus naevius
The Varied Thrush is a striking bird with a slate-blue back, orange underparts, and a bold black breast band. It is known for its haunting, flute-like song that echoes through the damp coniferous forests of the Pacific Northwest. This species is primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor for insects, spiders, and small invertebrates. It also feeds on berries and seeds. The Varied Thrush is a shy and solitary bird, often seen foraging alone or in pairs. During the breeding season, it builds cup-shaped nests in dense vegetation on the forest floor.
