Variegated Antpitta

Grallaria varia

The Variegated Antpitta is a small, secretive bird found in the cloud forests of the Andes mountains in South America. It is known for its distinctive song, which is often heard before the bird is seen. This species is primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor for invertebrates. Its plumage is characterized by a mottled pattern of brown, black, and white, providing excellent camouflage among the leaf litter. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Variegated Antpitta is considered vulnerable to extinction.
