Vilcabamba Thistletail, Asthenes vilcabambae, is a bird of the Furnariidae family found in the Vilcabamba Mountains of south-west Peru. It is confined to the northern and central Cordillera Vilcabamba, mainly east of the Apurímac River in Junín and Cuzco. It lives chiefly in elfin forest and Polylepis woodland near the tree line, with fewer records from higher páramo grassland and lower cloudforest. It also favours places with dense Chusquea bamboo. The species is monotypic, and the sexes share the same plumage. It was described by Vaurie, Weske and Terborgh in 1972.
