Village Weaver
Ploceus cucullatus
The Village Weaver is a small songbird native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is known for its striking yellow and black plumage, with the male having a bright yellow crown and underparts, and the female being more subdued in color. These birds are highly social and often build their intricate, woven nests in colonies, creating a spectacle of hanging structures in trees. They are primarily seed-eaters and can be found in a variety of open habitats, including savannas, grasslands, and agricultural areas. The Village Weaver is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is stable throughout much of its range.
