Violaceous Coucal, Centropus violaceus, is a cuckoo of the family Cuculidae found in Australasia, where it breeds in New Ireland and New Britain in the Bismarck Archipelago. It is restricted to the Bismarck Archipelago in Papua New Guinea and is associated with subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. The species was described by Quoy and Gaimard in 1832. It is a member of the order Cuculiformes and is known from this island group rather than from a wider range.
