Violaceous Quail-Dove, Geotrygon violacea, is a pigeon and dove of Middle America and South America, ranging from Nicaragua to Venezuela and across parts of central and eastern South America. It lives in the undergrowth and lower layers of tropical evergreen forest, including both intact and secondary woodland, and also uses cacao plantations. The species has a discontinuous range, with one form in Central America and another farther south. It is part of the Columbidae family and was first described by Temminck in 1809.
