Granatina granatina (Linnaeus, 1766)

Violet-eared Waxbill, Granatina granatina, is a bird of dry shrubland and savanna in southern Africa, with a breeding range that runs from southern Angola and central Namibia to western Zambia, Zimbabwe, southern Mozambique and northern to north-eastern South Africa. It is a common estrildid finch of drier country. The species was first described by Linnaeus in 1766. It is placed in the genus Granatina and is treated as monotypic, with no subspecies recognised.
