Violet-green Swallow

Tachycineta thalassina

The Violet-green Swallow is a small, migratory bird found in western North America. It has a distinctive plumage with iridescent violet and green upperparts, white underparts, and white patches on the sides of the rump. These agile aerial foragers are often seen catching insects on the wing. They nest in tree cavities and are known for their acrobatic flight displays during courtship. The species migrates to Central America for the winter. Violet-green Swallows are commonly found in open woodlands, along rivers, and in mountainous areas.
