Visayan Bulbul

Hypsipetes guimarasensis (Steere, 1890)

Pycnonotidae — Bulbuls

Visayan Bulbul, Hypsipetes guimarasensis, is a bulbul of the western Visayas in the Philippines, breeding on Guimaras, Masbate, Panay, Negros, Ticao and Verde. It was first described by Steere in 1890. This bird lives in lowland and montane forest, and also uses primary and secondary woodland, shrubby openings and cultivated places where trees remain. It was once treated as part of the Philippine bulbul, but is now recognised separately by some authorities. It is a newly split species, and little is known about it.
