Volcano Jay
Aphelocoma wollweberi
The Volcano Jay (Aphelocoma wollweberi) is a medium-sized bird native to the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama. It is known for its striking blue plumage, black facial markings, and distinctive crest. These jays are highly social and often found in small family groups, foraging for insects, seeds, and fruits in montane forests and adjacent habitats. Their vocalizations are varied and include a range of calls and mimicry. The Volcano Jay is not currently considered to be at risk, but its population may be vulnerable to habitat loss and fragmentation.
