Wedge-tailed Sabrewing, Pampa pampa, is a hummingbird of Middle America, breeding from the Yucatán to Guatemala, Belize and northern Honduras. It is placed in the family Trochilidae and the order Apodiformes. The bird has a straight, fairly long, sturdy bill. Adult males show a bright violet crown, green to bronze-green upperparts, bluish green upper tail coverts, and a tail that darkens to purplish black at the tips. Females are much the same, but with a dull blue crown and paler underparts. Young birds resemble females.
