Hirundo neoxena Gould, 1842

Welcome Swallow, Hirundo neoxena, is a passerine in the swallow family that breeds across Australasia, including Australia, Tasmania, Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands, New Zealand and northern outlying islands. It also occurs outside the breeding season in inland and northern Australia, as well as New Caledonia. Gould described it in 1842. It is closely similar to the Pacific Swallow and is often treated as the same species. Its breeding range covers southern and eastern Australia, where it uses open country, cleared land and towns, but not desert or dense forest.
