Leptotila wellsi
Wells's dove (Leptotila wellsi) is a medium-sized, ground-dwelling dove found in the humid forests of the Sierra de Los Tuxtlas in Veracruz, Mexico. It is characterized by its subtle coloration, with a pale gray head, neck, and breast, and a warm rufous-brown back and wings. The underparts are a soft pinkish-gray. This species is known for its low, mournful cooing call, often heard in the dense undergrowth where it forages for seeds and fruits. Wells's dove is secretive and elusive, making it a challenging bird to observe in the wild.
