West Mexican Chachalaca, Ortalis poliocephala, is a bird of western and south-western Mexico in the Cracidae family. It is found in Middle America and is endemic to Mexico. Its range runs through a broad belt from northern Jalisco to south-western Chiapas, reaching inland to south-western Puebla. It lives in mature deciduous forest, thorn scrub and secondary forest, and also occurs locally in pine-oak forest, mangroves and palm plantations. The species was first described by Wagler in 1830 and is now treated as monotypic.
