Western Bristlebird

Dasyornis longirostris

The Western Bristlebird (Dasyornis longirostris) is a medium-sized, secretive bird species endemic to the southwest coast of Australia. It has a distinctive long, slender bill and a mottled brown plumage, providing excellent camouflage in its dense heathland and shrubland habitats. These birds are known for their loud, melodious calls, often heard at dawn and dusk. They forage on the ground for insects, spiders, and seeds, using their long bills to probe into leaf litter and soil. The Western Bristlebird is listed as Endangered due to habitat loss and fragmentation caused by urban development and wildfires.
