Western Fire-eye Pyriglena maura is a passerine antbird of South America, recorded in western Ecuador, Peru, south-central Colombia, eastern and central Bolivia, and south-west Brazil. It lives in dense understorey in lowland and foothill evergreen forest, especially along forest edges, in mature secondary growth and in openings created by fallen trees. In some places it also uses gallery and deciduous forest. Both sexes have bright red irises, and the male is mostly glossy black with a concealed white patch between the scapulars.
