Western Rosella

Platycercus icterotis

The Western Rosella (Platycercus icterotis) is a colorful parrot species native to southwestern Australia. It is characterized by its vibrant plumage, with a predominantly red head, white cheeks, and a combination of green, blue, and yellow on the body. These medium-sized parrots are often found in open woodlands, forests, and coastal heathlands, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects. Western Rosellas are known for their playful and social nature, often forming small flocks. While their populations are currently stable, habitat loss and competition with introduced species pose potential threats to their long-term survival.
