Whinchat

Saxicola rubetra

The Whinchat is a small migratory bird known for its distinctive black and white plumage with a rusty orange breast. It is often found in open grasslands, heathlands, and moorlands, where it perches on low shrubs and fences to hunt for insects. During the breeding season, the male Whinchat performs a display flight to attract a mate. This species migrates long distances from its breeding grounds in Europe and Asia to wintering areas in sub-Saharan Africa. The Whinchat is known for its sharp and melodious song, which is often heard during the breeding season.
