White-banded Swallow

Atticora tibialis

The White-banded Swallow (Atticora tibialis) is a small, sleek swallow found in Central and South America. It has a distinctive white band across its chest and a deeply forked tail. These agile birds are often seen in flight, swooping and gliding as they catch insects on the wing. They are social birds, often nesting in colonies in natural or man-made cavities. White-banded Swallows prefer open habitats near water, including riverbanks, marshes, and open woodlands. They are known for their acrobatic flight and high-pitched calls. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and human disturbance, their populations are currently stable.
