White-bearded Helmetcrest

Oxypogon lindenii (Parzudaki, 1845)

White-bearded Helmetcrest, Oxypogon lindenii, is a hummingbird of northwestern Venezuela in the Andes of Mérida and Trujillo states. It lives in humid páramo, especially where Espeletia grows, and may also be found at the margins of Polylepis woodland. The species is notable for the adult male’s long black and white crest, dark face with a broad white collar, and slender white beard. Females lack the crest and beard and have dull white underparts marked with dense greenish brown spots. It was once treated as part of Bearded Helmetcrest.
