White-bellied Antbird

Henicorhina leucoptera

The White-bellied Antbird is a small, insectivorous bird found in the understory of humid forests in Central and South America. This species is known for its distinctive white belly and black upperparts, with the male having a bright red iris. They forage on or near the ground, often following army ant swarms to feed on flushed insects. Their melodious song can often be heard echoing through the forest understory. White-bellied Antbirds are known for their secretive behavior and are often difficult to spot despite being relatively common in suitable habitat.
