White-bellied Heron

Ardea insignis

The White-bellied Heron (Ardea insignis) is a large, striking heron found in the dense forests and wetlands of the Eastern Himalayas and Southeast Asia. With a wingspan of up to 2 meters, this majestic bird is known for its distinctive white belly and chestnut-colored neck. Its long, dagger-like bill and slate-gray plumage make it a remarkable sight in its natural habitat. Due to habitat loss, disturbance, and hunting, the White-bellied Heron is considered critically endangered, with only a few hundred individuals remaining in the wild.
